The Center accomplishes this by providing cutting-edge education and research to millions of people each year. We provide innovative education, skills, and research to help people care for the outdoors.

By working with the public and public land managers, we focus on the education process—rather than costly restoration programs or access restrictions—as the most effective and least burdensome solution to conservation.

The seven principles of Leave No Trace provide an easy-to-understand framework of minimal impact practices for anyone who visits the great outdoors. Although Leave No Trace has its roots in the wilderness, the principles have been adapted to apply anywhere—from remote wilderness areas to local parks and even your own backyard. They also apply to almost any recreational activity. Each principle addresses a specific topic and provides detailed information to minimize your impact on the natural world.
